Float Tanks
What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy float tanks are a tank of water kept at the same temperature as the human body in a sensory deprivation environment where you can fully relax and let go, forgetting all the stimulation of everyday life. The high epsom salt content of the water helps you float effortlessly while the magnesium in the salt works to releax your body from the inside out. Hydrotherapy float tanks are basically the most relaxing bath you’ll ever take.
What are the benefits of hydrotherapy?
Epsom salts used in a float tank help draw out inflammation while replacing magnesium in the body. This relaxing effect is ideal for athletes, but may help reduce aches, pains, and join stiffness as well as lower blood pressure and regulate circadian rhythms for more restful sleep for everyone. The weightless environment while floating reduces gravity’s effects, allowing for increased blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body.
Hydrotherapy offers the opportunity to fully let go, unwind and reset, while some people report deepened meditative states while floating. With sensory deprivation, and a relaxed state, you may feel a deeper inner connection and floating may enhance cognitive function and improve concentration.
Does Hydrotherapy cure health conditions?
Hydrotherapy is an alternative treatment not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is not a standard treatment for any disease, condition, or sympton, but may relieve symptoms such as pain, stiffness, bruising, swelling, or muscle pain from conditions like osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, parkinson’s disease, neuropathy, and multiple sclerosis. Hydrotherapy doesn’t cure any of these conditions and shouldn’t take the place of any treatment or medication recommended by a professional health care provider.
What Can You Expect From a float tank Session?
Generally, float tanks are cleaned before your arrival between sessions. Hydrotherapy float tanks or pods are usually found in a private room also containing a shower for you to wash away product that may be on your skin before entering the tank. Some people feel more comfortable wearing a swimming suit while floating, but it is usually acceptable to float nude. The hydrotherapy facility may offer a foam halo to help cradle your head while floating and they usually provide fresh water spray and towels nearby in case you were to get saltwater in your eyes.
Some float tanks offer a complete sensory deprivation with no sound or lights, while other pods offer the option of meditation music and colored lights during your float. Usually a hydrotherapy float facility will have frequently asked questions on their website for you to review before your arrival covering everything from how long the float session is and what you might need to bring to questions about shaving, if you have a cut or are menstruating, and what to eat and drink prior to your float.
